Anderson Silva has proven to be unbeatable since joining the UFC almost four years ago, wiping out 10 consecutive 
opponents to improve his professional record to 25-4. Silva, who hails from Curitiba, Brazil, has not tasted defeat since being disqualified in a Rumble on the Rock match with Yushin Okami (illiegal kick) in January of 2006.
The 34 year old has not appeared inside the Octagon since dispatching Forrest Griffin in a light heavyweight match last August. Silva knocked out the former 205lbs. champion at 3:23 in the first round, giving him his seventh KO in the UFC and 15th of his MMA career.
Silva is approaching tonight's fight in his usual business-like fashion.
"I'm the middleweight champion and I have to train to defend that belt…I have to put my gameplan into action," Silva said.
While Maia is stepping in for the injured Vitor Belfort, he should be anything but a pushover. The Jiu-Jitsu ace has just one loss on his record (Nate Marquardt – knock out UFC 102) and five of his six UFC wins have come by submission.
The 32 year old Maia, who scored a unanimous decision win over Dan Miller in his last fight, knows he has a big task on his hands when he steps into the Octagon with Silva this evening.
"What can I say, he's the best fighter in the world, pound for pound," Maia said. "He's good in everything that he does, and so far its the biggest challenge of my life."
