UFC 129 Betting Odds

by Matt Foust on Friday, April 29th, 2011

The UFC welterweight title is on the line tomorrow night as champion Georges St. Pierre takes on top ranked challenger Jake Shields at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, Ontario. UFC 129, which also features a battle for the featherweight title between current belt holder Jose Aldo and challenger Mark Hominick, is scheduled to get underway at 9:00pm ET. UFC 129 Betting Odds have St. Pierre listed as a -400 moneyline favorite to successfully defend his title; Aldo is a -500 favorite to take out Hominick.

Jake Shields (26-4-1) has overcome some big names during his current 15 fight win streak, beating the likes of Yushin UFC 129 Betting OddsOkami, Paul Daley, Robby Lawler, Dan Henderson, and Carlos Condit. Shields, who held the middleweight belt in both the EliteXC and Strikeforce before making his way to the Octagon, has never faced a fighter of St. Pierre's caliber, though.

The Cesar Gracie disciple overcame a dangerous Martin Kampmann in his UFC debut last October, but he garnered the win via split decision. While Kampmann is certainly a force, Shields, who is widely regarded as one of the best grapplers in mixed martial arts, will need a much better effort to take St. Pierre's belt.

Shields, who made the cut to welterweight upon entering the UFC, looked sluggish against Kampmann; however, he has had plenty of time now to adapt to the weight change and should be at full strength when he enters the Octagon tomorrow night against the champion.

Georges St. Pierre comes into tomorrow's clash looking for his ninth straight win and seventh consecutive title defense. St. Pierre has not recorded a finish since knocking out B.J Penn in January of 2009, but his last three opponents, Thiago Alves, Dan Hardy, and Josh Koscheck, never threatened the belt. The French-Canadian dominated all three fighters in route to unanimous decision victories.

St. Pierre, who referred to Shields "the toughest guy that I've fought", can improve his record to 22-2 with a win at UFC 129 and, potentially, setup a blockbuster showdown with middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Five of tomorrow's fights, including the main event, can be see live on Pay-Per-View while the prelims will be aired live on Facebook and Spike.
