 CBS Sports EliteXC results are in and the MMA star heavyweight Kimbo Slice survived some scary moments against game UK fighter James Thompson to win via 3rd round TKO Saturday night. Kimbo Slice improved his MMA record to 3-0 with the victory, but his disappointing performance was booed unmercifully by the UK crowd. The end of the fight was controversial as a Kimbo overhand right punch busted open Thompson’s cauliflower ear into a bloody pulp prompting the TKO stoppage. SportsBetting.com had Kimbo Slice listed as a heavy –600 odds favorite.Before the fight’s bogus conclusion, the 6’4” 260 Lb. Thompson (14-9) was giving the heavily hyped Kimbo Slice all he could handle in the octagon. Kimbo showed he is a one trick pony that has good punching power and little else in his arsenal. Thompson took Slice to the ground and continually mauled Kimbo with elbows and submission attempts that Slice barely survived. After the 1st round, Slice was completely fatigued and had little left on his crude punches. Kimbo did manage to buzz Thompson on a few occasions with some right hands but the UK fighter held his own with his stand-up and opened some holes in Slice’s defense. If the fight hadn’t been stopped prematurely, the EliteXC results would have shown that Kimbo was almost certain to lose by decision to the huge betting underdog James Thompson. With EliteXC heavily invested in Kimbo, the fighter was given all the breaks necessary to stay undefeated, but his reputation as a top fighter took a huge hit.                        |
