Hometown hero Michael Bisping gets to show off his skills Saturday when he takes on the tough little known Canadian Jason Day, at UFC 85 BEDLAM. Day is filling in for Chris Leben who is currently in jail under DUI charges. Bisping will make his second fight in his hometown of London, England. Jason Day has a chance to increase his popularity and status with a fight against one of the most marketable fighters, Michael Bisping. Day is an extremely tough fighter, with excellent submission skills and a well rounded arsenal of weapons. He likes to slap on any kind of choke hold and if he gets to use his elbows, he’s a happy man. Day wowed fans in UFC 83 by knocking out Alan Belcher 3:58 into the first round. He came into the fight as an underdog and left as a hero. He has eight wins by submission, he’s won five in a row and 10 of his last 11 fights.
Day’s thought’s on Bisping: I love this fight. Everybody’s been asking me who would I like to fight next, and I said Bisping, but who would have thought it would have come about so quickly? He’s a great fighter, an exciting fighter, tough as nails, and everybody wants that marquee fight where you get the guy that tests you and you slug it out for two or three rounds. I think he’s a pretty good test for me.
Michael Bisping, in my opinion, has been setup with easy fights ever since The Ultimate Fighter T.V. show. He won his first three UFC fights by TKO, he beat Josh Haynes, Eric Schafer and Elvis Sinosic. Who you ask? Exactly my point. His first fight on home soil was against Matt Hamill in UFC 75, which ended in a Split Decision with Bisping the winner. Hamill clearly should have won and the fans thought so as well. He was booed out of the Arena. So UFC president Dana White decides to put him up against Rasheed Evans in UFC 78. Once again it ends in a Split Decision with Evans winning. The UFC brass knows this guy is marketable and they don’t want him to lose, they’ll keep hand feeding him fights. He even dropped a weight class so he wouldn’t have to fight tougher fighters and risk losing his career. His first fight in middleweight class was in UFC 83 when he fought Charles McCarthy. Bisping won by TKO as McCarthy was unable to continue after the first round due to a forearm injury he sustained after receiving an unanswered series of knees and uppercuts from Bisping.
Bisping’s thought’s on Day: Jason Day looked bloody dangerous in his fight with Alan Belcher and I think this fight has exactly the same potential as the Leben fight to be a real war.
