UFC 115 Results

UFC 115 Results: Last night's proceedings in Vancouver, British Columbia officially ended an era in the UFC's light heavyweight division as Hall of Famer Chuck Liddell had his comeback attempt and, most likely, career ended by a right hook from Rich Franklin. "The Iceman" looked prepared and was his usual agressive self, but his chin is clearly past the point of supporting his awkward striking style. The rest of the top-card UFC 115 results included losses by heavyweight Pat Barry, a -175 favorite against Mirko Cro Cop at BetUS.com, and welterweight Paulo Thiago, a -260 favorite against Martin Kampmann.

As a younger, quicker fighter, Chuck Liddell ruled the 205lbs. roost in the UFC, but clearly age and the number of blows he UFC 115 Resultshas absorbed over the years have caught up with him. However, there is no shame in the way the once feared striker ended things. Liddell changed his lifestyle and recommitted himself to the fight game; he did not come into last night's showdown with Franklin on a whim.

Liddell went out guns blazing on a fighter he thought he had put away, and fans will remember that is the style that took him to the top and also showed him the exit. UFC President and former Liddell trainer Dana White expressed as much in his post fight presser.

"You know what? He went out like Chuck Liddell," White said. "He went out like Chuck Liddell would. Came out blasting, bombing, tried to put Rich away in a slugfest, and gave the fans a good last fight."

Perhaps lost in all the hoopla of last night being Liddell's last fight (probably) is what the win means for Rich Franklin. Franklin was clearly quicker than Liddell during the fight and scored a devasting knockout with his off hand because his left arm was broken by a Liddell kick! At 35, the Cincinnati native might have time to make a run in the light heavyweight division, a class he once abandoned but has now rejoined at White's request.

Franklin was knocked out by Vitor Belfort in his last fight; however, the former high school math teacher contends his mind and body were not in a good place before that encounter. If he is rejuvenated, Franklin could pose a big challenge to guys like Belfort, "Rampage" Jackson, Lyoto Machida, Rashad Evans, Jon Jones and Mauricio Rua. Having beat Liddell and Wanderlei Silva, Franklin is obviously a step ahead of the division's elderstatesmen.

Last night's undercard featured a number of great fights, but no other combatants did more for themselves or their backers than Martin Kampmann and PRIDE legend Mirko Cro Cop. Kampmann, as +200 underdog, put on a dominating performance in scoring a unanimous decision win over Paulo Thiago and he also put himself toward the top of the contenders list in the welterweight division. Cro Cop, who was knocked down twice by the heavy handed Pat Barry in the first round, turned in an incredibly gutty performance as went on to win the second round and eventually submit Barry with a rear naked choke in the third.
