UFC 116 Betting Odds & Predictions: Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin

by Matt Foust on Saturday, July 3rd, 2010

UFC 116 Betting Odds & Predictions Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin: The fight MMA fans have been waiting for is finally here as UFC Heavyweight Champion Brock Lesnar takes on Interim Heavyweight Champ Shane Carwin in a unification battle at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas. The two behemoths are the headliners in tonight's UFC 116 card, which also features a middleweight bout between Yoshihiro Akiyama and Chris Leben. UFC 116 Betting Odds & Predictions at Bodog.com have Lesnar listed as a -140 moneyline favorite to retain his belt.

Thirty-two year old Brock Lesnar got a late start on his mixed martial arts career, but he has wasted noUFC 116 Betting Odds & Predictions: Brock Lesnar vs Shane Carwin time in establishing himself as one of the most dangerous men on the planet. The former NCAA Division I heavyweight wrestling champion is 4-1 overall, losing only to Frank Mir in a freak submission that was evidence of his inexperience as a fighter. Lesnar has since avenged that loss with a dominating TKO win over Mir last July.

Lesnar, who was scheduled to fight Carwin last November, has not stepped foot in the cage since that beatdown of Mir. The intestinal disorder diverticulitis temporarily got the better of the South Dakota native, sidelining him for nearly six months.

The man many would describe as brash, cocky, and aggrogant is now back, though, and, according to the giant himself, is ready to end all speculation as to who is the best heavyweight in the UFC.

"I'm going to end Shane's perfect record and walk out of the Octagon with my championship belt around my waist," Lesnar said.

Shane Carwin, like Lesnar, got a late jump on his fighting career; however, he too has made the most of his opportunities. Carwin brings an unblemished 12-0 record into the Octagon tonight, including a 5-0 mark in the UFC, which he joined in October of 2005 (WEC).

Carwin's impressive resume, which includes knockouts of Gabriel Gonzaga and the aforementioned Mir, has many believing the former college football player can take Lesnar's belt. The 35 year old Carwin has not made any bold predictions regarding tonight's five round skirmish, but he did express his dislike for the talkative Lesnar.

"Brock's attitude, I don't care for it that much," said Carwin, who has yet to see an opponent make it out of the first round. "How he treats people, he's just disrepectful."

Maybe the Colorado native can teach Lesnar a thing or two about manners this evening; everyone knows he will have the champ's undivided attention.
