Brock Lesnar lost his UFC debut to Frank Mir in UFC 81. Lesnar came charging out of his corner when the bell rang to start the fight, seven seconds in Lesnar had Mir on his back and began raining down punches. All the pre-game hype around Lesnar’s UFC debut seemed to be correct. Then when he thought he had it in the bag, Lesnar was caught in a kneebar and that was all she wrote as Lesnar had no choice but to tap out. “I’m still disgusted with myself,” said Lesnar. “I got so excited. He’s had to change mentally and physically and he feels ready to take on Heath Herring. “Heath has had some battles getting into the Octagon and proving himself, but I think I’m going to get the best Heath Herring come August 9th. Heath has got a lot to lose in this fight too, so I think there’s a lot on the line for the both of us.” This is a must win for Brock if he wants any chance of having a heavyweight title shot and a career in the UFC.

Thoughts on opponent, Heath Herring – My goal is to capture the UFC heavyweight championship and I'll fight whoever they put in front of me until I reach my goal. I don't care who it is. I'm not here to pick my opponents.

Heath Herring is an 11 year veteran of MMA and may be the toughest challenger on the circuit for Brock Lesnar. He made the transition from Pride FC in Japan to UFC heavyweight contender. A well-rounded fighter who has been in with the best in the game, including Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (three times), Mirko Cro Cop, Vitor Belfort, and Igor Vovchanchyn, Herring is coming off his biggest UFC win to date, a three round victory over Cheick Kongo in UFC 82, and he knows that a win over Lesnar will move him closer to a world title shot. Herring is a well rounded fighter with size and agility who can go the distance, in fact his last four fights have gone the distance. “I’ve fought bigger guys than him and better wrestlers than him, my experience is definitely a major advantage for me. There’s nothing that Lesnar brings to the table that I’ve never seen before. You can’t put a price tag on that kind of experience. He’s only had two fights and there are lots of styles he’s never seen and situations he’s never been involved in before.

Thoughts on opponent, Brock Lesnar -   I’m looking forward to fighting an opponent that the crowd wants to see me fight.

The Bottom Line: Lesnar does not what this fight to go past the first round, he has to come out swinging hard and fast. Herring has to take it to the mat, Lesnar is too big and strong to try and out punch or knockout.
