UFC 117 Betting Odds & Predictions Anderson Silva vs Chael Sonnen: Tonight's UFC 117 headliner could be billed as the world's greatest fighter versus the world's greatest trash talker as the seemingly unbeatable Anderson Silva squares off against gum flapper extraordinaire Chael Sonnen for the middleweight title. Sonnen, for all his bluster, has failed to convince odds makers that he stands much a chance at stealing Silva's belt when the two enter the Ocatgon tonight. UFC 117 Betting Odds & Predictions at Sportsbook.com have the champion listed as a -500 moneyline favorite to retain his title.
Anderson Silva's record is nearly impeccable as the Brazilian has gone 26-4 as a professional fighter, and his record since
joining the UFC is an unblemished 11-0. Silva has cleaned out the entire middleweight division, beating former champion Rich Franklin twice as well as top challengers Nate Marquardt, Dan Henderson, and Demian Maia. He has even moved up to light heavyweight on two occasions where he easily disposed of James Irvin and former champ Forrest Griffin.
Despite his sterling record and unparalleled skills, Silva is presently in a number of doghouses, including that of UFC President Dana White. White felt that Silva embarrassed the promotion with his performance against Maia at UFC 112 in Abu Dhabi when he spent the last three rounds of the fight dancing around his opponent.
Among Silva's biggest critics, though, has been Chael Sonnen, who spent the last several months berating the champion for ducking him, not speaking English even though he knows the language, and being clueless in the fight promotion department. Silva has not responsed to Sonnen's verbal attacks, but he did let loose a little this week.
"I'm relaxed for this fight. I'm used to fighting idiots like him that are talking about me," Silva said. "It's a constant battle. I've fought idiots all over the world. To talk about me is easy. Try beating me."
Sonnen, who is 26-10 overall and riding an impressive three fight win streak (Dan Miller, Yushin Okami, Nate Marquardt), will attempt to do just that. The former wrestling standout will probably approach Silva in much the same way he did Marquardt, who is superior striker like the champion, which means he will be looking to get the fight to the ground. His skill set will give him a chance, but he will be tackling his biggest challenge yet in Silva.
