UFC 87: Seek and Destroy Betting Preview

by Matt Foust on Saturday, August 9th, 2008

UFC 87: Seek and Destroy takes place tonight at the Target Center in Minneapolis, Minnesota. The 10 fight card is scheduled to start at 10:00pm EST and will broadcast live on pay-per-view. The headliner for the event is a bout between Georges St-Pierre and Jon Fitch for the UFC Welterweight Championship. St-Pierre is the current belt holder and betting odds at Bodoglife.com have the Canadian born fighter listed as a -400 favorite.UFC 87: Seek and Destroy Betting Preview

St-Pierre has looked almost invincible since his loss to Matt Serra last April. The man known as "Rush" has compiled a 3-0 record since that fight, including a rematch beat down of Serra to earn the welterweight title. St-Pierre also defeated Matt Hughes in convincing fashion, and his performance of late has generated talk of him possibly being the best pound for pound fighter in the world. It is generally considered to be a toss up between St-Pierre and current middleweight champion Anderson Silva.

Georges is extremely athletic and he is capable of beating opponents in a variety of ways. His wrestling skills are outstanding and he is also an expert in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu. He has amassed a 16-2 MMA record with wins by TKO, submission, and unanimous decision.

Jon Fitch is largely an unknown to the public, but in MMA circles he respected for his skills as well as his tenacity. Fitch wrestled for Purdue University and earned a degree in physical education in his time there. He began his MMA career shortly after college and the 30 year old has put together a 21-2 record with wins over Diego Sanchez (split decision), Thiago Alves (TKO), and – most recently — Chris Wilson (unanimous decision). While Fitch is a +285 underdog in tonight's fight, he should be a game opponent for St-Pierre.

The card also features former wrestler Brock Lesner in his third MMA fight and a lightweight match between Kenny Florian and Roger Huerta. Lesner, who was submitted by Frank MIr in his last fight, will be taking on 6'4", 250 Heath Herring. Lesner is a -240 favorite to take out "The Texas Crazy Horse".
