UFC 118 Betting Odds

by Matt Foust on Tuesday, August 24th, 2010

UFC 118 Betting Odds: The UFC returns this weekend with an 11 fight card at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. UFC 118 is headlined by a lightweight title match between challenger BJ Penn and champion Frankie Edgar. The stacked card also features the MMA debut of current IBA Heavyweight champion James "Lights Out" Toney as he takes on UFC Hall of Famer Randy "The Natural" Couture. UFC 118 Betting Odds at online sportsbook Bodog.com have the former champion Penn listed at -350 moneyline odds to regain his crown and Couture pegged as a -575 moneyline favorite to take out Toney.

Frankie Edgar stunned fight fans in April by taking the lightweight title from a seemingly invincible BJ Penn at UFC 112 in UFC 118 Betting OddsAbu Dhabi. Edgar won the five round match via unanimous decision to improve his professional record to 12-1. Edgar's only career loss came at the hands of Gray Maynard, who will also be in action this weekend as he takes on another top challenger in Kenny Florian.

Prior to April's loss, BJ Penn had reeled off five consecutive lightweight victories, taking out the likes of Joe Stevenson, Sean Sherk, and the aforementioned Florian. Penn, one of the best counter strikers in the sport, was surprisingly outstruck in the loss to Edgar, and he even saw the New Jersey native penetrate his formidable takedown defense on a few occasions.

James Toney has talked the talk, now the boxing great must walk the walk. Toney has made his opinion clear that boxers are superior to MMA fighters and now he has an opportunity to prove it against one the UFC's most decorated warriors. "Lights Out", who owns a 72-6-3-2 record as a boxer, has called Couture a "bitch" and mma fighters "sissies" in the lead up to this Saturday's showdown.

For his part, Randy Couture, a former UFC heavyweight and light heavyweight champion, has remained more diplomatic, but all fans need to know is that the former wrestling great personally asked UFC President Dana White for this fight.

UFC 118 can be seen live on Pay-Per-View Saturday, August 28th at 10:00pm ET. Two preliminary bouts will air live on Spike TV starting at 9:00pm ET.
