UFC 118 Betting Odds & Predictions: Nate Diaz vs Marcus Davis

by Matt Foust on Saturday, August 28th, 2010

UFC 118 Betting Odds & Predictions Nate Diaz vs Marcus Davis: Two fighters looking to make a move in the welterweight division will meet tonight at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. Nate Diaz and Marcus Davis are not in line for a shot at the winner of the Josh Koscheck/Georges St.Pierre clash later this year; however, the victor in this evening's fight will certainly be closer to that goal. UFC 118 Betting Odds & Predictions at Bodog.com currently have Diaz, who is making his second appearance at welterweight, listed as a -200 moneyline favorite.

Nate Diaz rebounded from a January lightweight loss to Gray Maynard by taking out Rory Markham in a UFC 118 Betting Odds & Predictions: Nate Diaz vs Marcus Daviswelterweight fight at UFC 111 in March. Diaz scored a TKO (punches) against the Iowa native at the 2:47 mark of the first round. The win improved the Gracie fighter's overall record to 12-5 and his UFC tally to 7-3.

Diaz, who has garnered five of his seven UFC wins via submission, will move a rung up the welterweight ladder when he challenges Marcus "The Irish Hand Grenade" Davis tonight. However, despite his Brazilian Ji-Jitsu background, Diaz is more than capable of holding his own standing up, something Davis, a former boxer, knows well.

"He's similar to me as far as what he uses in his arsenal," Davis said. "I think what Diaz does for his boxing, being long, throwing out his lead left hand a lot, he has some good things that he does."

Davis, though, who ended a two fight losing streak in May with a second round KO of Canada's Jonathan Goulet, still feels he has the upper hand against Diaz, who is 12 years his junior.

"I have more tools [standing up] than [Diaz]" Davis said. "I have better footwork. He moves forwards and backwards, I move side to side. I [also] think I'm the more powerful puncher. I don't think there's any question about that. I hit guys with one shot and they go out."

Davis, who owns a 22-7 record, is also a capable performer on the ground, recording four submission victories since joining the UFC in November of 2005.

UFC 118 Betting Odds & Predictions: Take Davis as a +160 underdog. Diaz has just one UFC win by KO/TKO while Davis has just two losses by KO/TKO. Diaz stopping Davis standing up seems like an unlikely occurance, as does a submission considering Davis has just one loss by tapout (rear naked choke).
