UFC 118 BJ Penn vs Frankie Edgar Betting Odds & Predictions: BJ Penn will look to regain his lightweight title this evening as he and current champion Frankie Edgar headline UFC 118 in Boston, Massachusetts. BJ Penn had put together a perfect 5-0 record in lightweight competition prior to his meeting with Frankie Edgar in April. As a
result, Penn entered UFC 112 as a huge -800 moneyline favorite against the New Jersey native. Many felt the decision was controversial, but Edgar outpointed the former champion by landing more strikes and scoring a few opportune take downs.
Penn did not dispute the conclusion; however, he recently had some choice words for judges in general as well as the 10 point system that is used to score fights. Perhaps motivated by the outcome in Abu Dhabi, Penn has made it quite clear that tonight's battle will not be decided by anyone but himself.
"I will knock him out or submit him…I don't know what it's going to be, but I cannot wait to finish him," Penn said.
Edgar, who enters tonight's fight with a 12-1 professional record, has all the tools to retain the title. Not only is the 28 year old an excellent striker, his ground skills are substantial as well. A former wrestler, Edgar possesses a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu purple belt under fellow UFC fighter Ricardo Almeida.
However, Edgar knows his April victory over Penn upped the ante as everyone in the lightweight division now wants a piece of him.
"I've painted a bullseye on my chest and everyone's gunning for me," Edgar said. "You can't sit on your high horse and expect to keep the title, you're going to have to work hard for it. But I don't train to lose, I'm definitely training to win this fight."
UFC 118 Betting Odds & Predictions: Honestly, this fight is hard to call and could go either way; however, Edgar as a +250 dog against a guy he's already beat makes good betting sense.
