UFC 118 Odds Randy Couture vs James Toney UFC 118 Picks: IBA Heavyweight champion James "Lights Out" Toney makes his MMA debut this evening at the TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts. The 42 year old boxer will meet veteran fighter Randy Couture in a co-main event battle at UFC 118: Edgar vs Penn 2. Despite his exceptional trash talking abilities, Toney has failed to convince odds makers that he stands much of a chance against "The Natural" tonight. UFC 118 Odds & Picks at online bookmaker Bodog.com have Couture listed as a -575 moneyline favorite against Toney.
James Toney lobbied UFC President Dana White for months in attempt to get a contract with the promotion; his efforts
finally paid off earlier this year when White signed the veteran boxer. Now Toney, who refers to mixed martial artists as "sissies", will have an opportunity to show his fighting wares inside the Octagon rather than the ring.
If Toney's thinking is correct, tonight's match with Couture will be mere child's play. The veteran of 83 professional boxing matches, who scored a second round KO in his last fight (September 2009 – Matthew Greer), contends that Couture will find the canvas and find it quickly once the cage door closes.
"As soon as I touch him, he's going to sleep," Toney said.
Randy Couture has remained unflappable in the lead up to tonight's showdown, responding to most of Toney's comments and UFC doll shenanigans with laughter. Couture, who is five years Toney's senior, has seen enough inside the cage that hot air and bluster are not going to have much of an affect on him.
The Washington native, who asked White for this fight, enters the Octagon this evening having won his last two scraps, including a second round submission over Mark Coleman in February.
While the UFC Hall of Famer has not even approached Toney's level of hyperbole, Couture did make it clear how he thinks things will go against "Lights Out" at the TD Garden tonight.
"James, or any other boxer, that thinks their just going to walk in there with just their boxing tools is going to be sorely mistaken," Couture said.
UFC 118 Picks: Entertaining to watch, simple to analyze. Randy Couture has one thing to fear in this fight, that being Toney's standup skill. When was the last time Couture entered the Octagon facing an opponent so one dimensional? Probably never. Even Tim Slyvia throws a decent leg kick. Toney will have to account for Couture's fists, feet, take downs, clinch, and dirty boxing game. Toney has a shot, but it is a small one…the money is on "The Natural" for good reason.
UFC 118 can be seen live tonight on Pay-Per-View starting at 10:00pm ET. Two preliminary fights will be shown for free on Spike TV at 9:00pm ET.
