UFC 121 Betting Odds: The UFC will host, perhaps, its biggest event of the year this weekend at the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. UFC 121 features a battle for the heavyweight championship between current belt holder Brock Lesnar and top contender Cain Velasquez. The stacked card will also present fight fans with a welterweight clash between former Strikeforce champ Jake Shields and noted striker Martin Kampmann as well as a light heavyweight war between former training partners Matt Hamill and Tito Ortiz. UFC 121 Betting Odds at online bookmaker Bodog.com have the Lesnar (-155) and Shields (-260) listed as favorites in the two main event bouts.
Brock Lesnar won the biggest fight of his career this summer, gaining a second round submission over Shane Carwin. The
win was especially impressive given the beating the champion took in the first round from the heavy handed Carwin.
Lesnar weathered a barrage of punches, both standing up and on the ground, from the previously undefeated challenger, but survived nonetheless. The former NCAA All American wrestler took advantage of a gassed Carwin in the second frame, locking in an arm-triangle choke to retain his title.
The win answered any questions there might be in regard to Lesnar's previously untested chin; however, it also put a dent in his air of invincibility as Carwin was mere seconds away from claiming the belt.
Cain Velasquez, who will be a good 20lbs. lighter than Lesnar when the two enter the Octagon on Saturday night, comes into this fight with an unblemished 8-0 record. The 28 year old former Arizona State wrestler last fought in February when he finished the legendary Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira with a first round KO.
Velasquez, despite his wrestling pedigree and high level jiu-jitsu, has carved out a reputation as a dangerous striker since joining the UFC in April of 2008. Five of the highly conditioned Arizona native's wins have come via knock out, with three of those occuring in the first round.
Velasquez' combination of speed and power will certainly pose a challenge to the hulkish Lesnar, which makes Saturday's fight one of the most anticipated MMA events of the year.
UFC 121 can be seen live on Pay-Per-View this Saturday, October 23rd at 10:00pm ET
