Is Bodog's Billionaire Founder Calvin Ayre setting up the MMA fight of the century between Randy Couture vs Fedor Emelianenko? By the looks of it, this could be the case. Back on October 11, 2007, Couture held a press conference to announce that he was severing all ties with the UFC and the Don King like Dana White."The motivation for the decision is two-fold," stated Couture. "I know Fedor (Emelianenko) just signed with another organization and that's the only real fight that makes sense for me at 44 years old as the heavyweight champion of the UFC. That's the fight I wanted and if that can't happen it doesn't make sense for me to compete with all these other guys. And then obviously that's not going to happen now. And, two, I'm tired of being taken advantage of, played as the nice guy and basically swimming against the current with the management of the UFC. I have a lot of other things going on in my life that I'm doing just fine with. I don't need the problems. I don't feel like I get the respect I deserve from the organization, and that's motivation No. 2 for the letter of resignation that was sent today." It’s no secret that Bodog Fight is interested in a Randy Couture vs Fedor Emelianenko fight. Couture already publicly announced that Bodog Fight offered him $3 million to take on Fedor Emelianenko, however "The Natural" was still under contract with Dana White of the UFC at the time. "A fight between Randy and Fedor Emelianenko would be one of the greatest bouts in the history of MMA," stated Bodog Founder Calvin Ayre on his blog November 5th, 2007. "As a fan I would do everything in my power to make it happen." Couture is the only athlete to have held championship titles in both the heavyweight and light heavyweight divisions of the UFC, as well as the only five-time champion in UFC history. Speaking on Randy Couture's legacy Ayre wrote: "He is an extraordinary athlete, keeps himself in top shape, and I believe he still has a lot more to give to the sport and to his many fans." Will MMA fans get to see Randy Couture vs Fedor Emelianenko? Calvin Ayre certainly has enough money to make the fight happen and most importantly Bodog Fight has already worked with Emelianenko and M-1 for their popular Bodog Fight: St. Petersburg Series. Only time will tell if the deal gets done, but we are putting our money on Calvin to pull this off. |
