UFC 123 Betting Odds

by Matt Foust on Saturday, November 20th, 2010

UFC 123 Betting Odds: The UFC has made its way to the Motor City tonight for an 11 fight card at the Palace of Auburn Hills. This evening's headlining bout is a clash between former light heavyweight champions Quinton "Rampage" Jackson and Lyoto "The Dragon" Machida. Also on the docket is a welterweight battle between UFC Hall of Famer Matt Hughes and former lightweight and welterweight champion B.J. "The Prodigy" Penn. UFC 123 Betting Odds at online bookmaker Bodog.com have Machida and Penn listed as -280 and -175 moneyline favorites respectively.

Quinton Jackson has fought two times in just under two years, but the brash Tennessee native is looking to put his name UFC 123 Betting Oddsback in the light heavyweight title mix tonight. Jackson took time off from fighting after serving as a coach on season 10 of The Ultimate Fighter in order to play the role of B.A. Baracus in The A Team movie. His time away from the cage was evident when he returned to the UFC to square off against Rashad Evans in May of this year.

Evans scored a relatively easy unanimous decision victory in the grudge match as Jackson struggled to land quality punches. The former champ vows tonight's showdown with Machida will look much different.

"I started this camp very early," Jackson said. "I stayed in shape from the last fight and the weight hasn't been an issue this time. Every single minute of this camp [was] focused on technique, not getting back in shape or shaking the ring rust after a long time off."

Lyoto Machida also comes into tonight's fight seeking a measure of redemption. "The Dragon", who many thought would enjoy a long reign as the light heavyweight belt holder, saw his championship tenure limited to just two fights after he lost his second match against current champion Mauricio Rua.

Machida, who lost via first round knock out to "Shogun" back in May, will, most likely, earn another crack at the Brazilian with a win this evening. The 32 year old karate master is confident that will happen after he takes care of business against Jackson.

"I respect Rampage and I think he is an incredible fighter, but I'm going to expose his weaknesses — I'm going to win this fight…and go after the light heavyweight title," Machida said.

Tonight's meeting between Hughes and Penn will mark the third time the two fighters have faced each other inside the Octagon. Penn ended Hughes five fight reign as welterweight champion with a first round submission in 2004; however, Hughes exacted his revenge in 2006 with a third round TKO of "The Prodigy". This evening's scrap will, no doubt, be the last time the two legendary fighters square off, which, according to Hughes, makes it the most important one.

"It's a huge fight," Hughes said. "The rubber match is the tell-all."
