UFC 106 takes place tonight at the Mandalay Events Center in Las Vegas, Nevada. The 10 fight card will be headlined by a clash between light heavyweight veterans Tito Ortiz and Forrest Griffin. Also on the Pay-Per-View ticket is a bout between Ultimate Fighter season seven winner Amir Sadollah and middleweight retread Phil Baroni. The event, which features two preliminary battles live on Spike TV, is scheduled to get underway at 10:00pm ET. Amir Sadollah shocked almost everyone by winning the Ultimate Fighter season seven as an extreme longshot back in June
of 2008. That feat, coupled with him obvious submission abilities, had fight fans wondering how he would fare in a difficult middleweight divison. Everyone waited and waited, but Sadollah was unable to fight due to a leg infection as well as a broken clavicle.
Finally, the New York native stepped into the Octagon again on August 8th, over a year after his defeat of CB Dollaway in the TUF finale. The result took everyone by surprise as Sadollah was TKO'd by Johny Hendricks just 0:29 into round one in what many believed to be an early stoppage.
The loss left the 29 year old with a 2-1 record and sparked questions about how well Sadollah could carry the TUF banner. For his part, Amir was devastated.
"It sucked. It really sucked, man," Sadollah said. "After the loss, I took a break and spent time with family. I wanted to get a grip on life and just lick my wounds."
Now the affable and humorous fighter gets a chance to erase that memory as he takes on veteran Phil Baroni. Baroni, who possesses a 13-11 professional MMA record, last fought in the UFC in February of 2003. "The New York Bad Ass" has been on the wrong end of things his last four trips into the Octagon, falling to Matt Lindland, the late Evan Tanner (twice), and Pete Sell. He also lost his last fight via unanimous decision to Joe Riggs at a June Strikeforce event.
