Tonight at the FedEX Forum in Memphis, Tennessee, the UFC returns with a huge 11 fight card that is headlined by a battle for the lightweight title between current belt holder BJ Penn and top challenger Diego Sanchez. Also on the UFC 107 docket is a clash between former heavyweight champion Frank Mir and French powerhouse Cheick Kongo. Frank Mir had a three fight win streak come to a crashing halt last time he stepped into the Octagon as a highly motivated 
Brock Lesnar destroyed the former champ. Lesnar scored a TKO at 1:48 into the second round after a dominating first round performance against the Las Vegas native. Prior to the Lesnar fight, Mir had taken out Antoni Hardonk (submission), Lesnar (submission), and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira (TKO).
The 30 year old Mir, who has a 12-4 MMA record, will have his work cut out for him against Kongo whose last three victories have come via TKO.
"He's a dangerous striker with his back against the wall, so I expect to see the best version of him so far," Mir said.
Cheick Kongo, like Mir, comes into this heavyweight showdown off of a tough loss. The Paris native suffered a unanimous decision setback to the undefeated Cain Velasquez. Kongo, again like Mir, had won three straight fights before succumbing to Velasquez, beating Dan Evensen, Mostapha Al Turk, and Antoni Hardonk.
The 34 year old Kongo, who stands 6' 4" tall, has a 24-5-1 professional record and a 7-3 mark inside the Octagon. He has never been KO'd/TKO'd or submitted in the UFC.
Kongo, who would fall in line behind Shane Carwin and Velasquez in the Brock Lesnar sweepstakes with a win over Mir, expects this evening's encounter with former champ to be a crowd pleaser.
"In the UFC, you can't take any opponents lightly," Kongo said. "But when you face a former champion such as Frank Mir, you're expecting one of the toughest fights of your career. It's going to be a classic."
