UFC 69 Shootout featuring the marquee battle of the night between Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra will be broadcast live from the Toyota Center in Houston, Texas on April 7th, 2007. The eight fight under card starts at 8:00 PM EST.
The UFC World Welterweight Championship is a revenge bout between Georges St. Pierre from Montreal, Quebec and Matt Serra from Long Island, New York. The 25 year old St. Pierre is seven years younger and 4 inches taller than Serra.
Georges St. Pierre vs. Matt Serra will be the last fight of the night.
Back at UFC 50 in 2004, Hughes placed Georges in a arm bar in the first round to take over the vacant Welterweight Championship. What makes the tomorrow night’s match up so exciting is that St. Pierre dominated Matt Hughes in their most recent MMA fight in November 2006 to secured the UFC World Welterweight Championship Title. Many experts believed Hughes was the best pound for pound fighter in the world.
St. Pierre is a wrestling and Jiu-Jitsu expert that is very well rounded and an athletic Mixed Martial Arts fighter with a 13-1 record. Serra’s strength is submissions and he is an aggressive fighter with a 15-4 record in MMA fights. In November 2006, Matt beat Chris Lytle in a lackluster effort which resulted in a three round split decision. Serra is a heavy underdog at +550 (Bet $100 to win $550) and he better be ready for St. Pierre -900 (Bet $900 to win $100) on Saturday Night.
