Round by round UFC 73 results for the Middleweight championship fight between Anderson Silva vs. Nate Marquardt. Nate came out to the song “Eye of the Tiger” but being inspired by Rocky Balboa was not enough against the champion Silva.Silva won the fight with 15 seconds left in the first round by knock out as predicted by Point-Spreads.com MMA columnist Brad Marchetti. Sportsbook.com had Anderson Silva a -160 odds favorite in the Middleweight Champion Title fight. “Silva had a close fight with Lutter in his last outing so some were suspicious that his skills are fading but tonight proved that is clearly not the case,” stated Marchetti. “Oddsmakers put too much emphasis on Silva’s last fight making him a great value at –160 odds because he easily could have been a –300 odds favorite.” UFC 73 Results for Round 1: Anderson fought in south paw stance to start the fight as the two men were trying to figure out each others reach. Nate missed a few shots to Silva’s face. Marquardt caught Anderson’s flying knee and drove him to the ground after 20 seconds of Silva trying to keep his standing balance. Silva hit Nate with a big right hand with 1 minute left stunning Marquardt as he fell to the ground. On the way down he tried a single leg take down but Silva reserved it and starting whaling on his face. He landed a huge right had that bloodied Nate’s nose. Anderson smelled blood and started throwing multiple facial strikes until McCarthy ended the fight with 15 seconds left. |
