Benjamin Raich (AUT) – won gold medals in the giant slalom and slalom at the 2006 Winter Olympics. He is one of the best alpine skiers of all time. He won the World Cup slalom in 2001 and in 2005 he won giant slalom and slalom. At the 2002 games he finished with a silver medal in slalom. Throughout his total career he has 14 slalom wins, 14 giant slalom wins and 7 combined wins.
Marcel Hirscher (AUT) – has won two Alpine skiing world cup races in giant slalom. He won at the end of 2009 and most recently in 2010 before heading to the Olympics in Vancouver. He has been on eight world cup podiums in slalom, giant slalom and super combined. Marcel Hirscher is listed as 13/2 odds underdog to win Gold.
Ted Ligety (USA) – was the 2008 World Cup champion in giant slalom. He currently has five World Cup victories (all in giant slalom), 15 podiums, and 48 top ten finishes. In 2010 Ligety won a giant slalom at Kranjska Gora for his first victory of the year. With one race left in the season, Ligety leads the discipline standings for giant slalom, with two races left. He currently ranks seventh overall. Ted Ligety is listed as 11/2 odds underdog to win Gold.
Bode Miller (USA) – already has three medals in the 2010 Olympics. He has a bronze in the downhill; silver in Super-G and most recently he got gold in the Super-Combined, Downhill and slalom. Bode is a two-time overall World Cup champion and four-time world champion. He won two silver medals at the 2002 Salt Lake Games and he fell way short of athletic expectations at the 2006 Torino Games. He’s toned down the partying at these games and it’s paying off.
