2008 Beijing Olympics Betting Odds: Men’s 100 Meters

2008 Beijing Olympics Betting Odds: Men's 100 MetersAs expected, the worlds top three men sprinters , American Tyson Gay and Jamaican’s Usain Bolt and Asafa Powell are installed as betting favorites to win medals in the most anticipated of athletic events at the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the Men’s 100 Meter Athletics.

Oddsmakers at Bodog (Bodoglife.com) installed Gay the favorite to win Gold at 5/4 odds slightly better than Bolt at 7/4 and Powell at 11/4. Gay recently ran the 100 Meters in Olympic Trials at Eugene, Ore., in 9.68 seconds aided by a slight wind. The time would have qualified as a world record had the wind been below 2 m/s.  Bolt is the current record holder of the 100 meters at 9.72 seconds. Powell finished 3rd in the 2007 World Championship final in Osaka, Japan behind Gay, who won in a time of 9.85 seconds, and was Powell's biggest rival building up to the championships.

Gay suffered a severe hamstring cramp while attempting to qualify for the Olympics 200 Meters, Gay’s strongest event. The injury will not keep him from running the 100 Meters in the Olympics. Gay is also qualified to run in the 400 Meter Relay.
