Men "The Master " Nguyen fell victim to a set over set when he flopped a set of fives versus his opponent's flopped set of nines. Men Guyen was born in 1954 in Phan Thiet, Vietnam. Nicknamed Men “The Master” Guyen, he has since lived up to his name. In 1967, when men was only 13, he dropped out of school to become a bus drive in order to help support his family. That same year, he received political asylum from the United States, and came to settle in Los Angeles, California. He became an American citizen in 1986, just two years after going on a junket to Las Vegas, Nevada, where he played poker for the first time ever.
He continued traveling to Vegas every weekend, where he proceeded to lose hundreds of dollars. This earned him the name “Money Machine”. This, however, did not deter him from mastering the game.
In 1987, Guyen won what would be the first of many poker tournaments, and opened a dry cleaning business and furniture store with his winnings. He kept both until 1990, at which point they were sold, because, according to him, they took up too much time and didn’t make enough money. Through these businesses, however, he would meet, and later work with a variety of Vietnamese people, some of which would later fall under his tutelage.
Since that time, Guyen has married and has eight children. He has continued to win various poker tournaments through the years, and still remains among the top poker players of the world.
