Jennifer Tilly was born Jennifer E. Chan on September 16, 1958. She resided in Las Angeles where she quickly made her way up in the poker world, earning the nickname “The Unabombshell. Her careers include professional acting, and semi-professional poker.
Though she was born in Las Angeles, Tilly grew up in British Columbia, Canada where she was raised by her mother and step father after her parents’ divorce when she was only three years of age. She began her acting career when she was a teenager through a theater program at Stephens College in Missouri.
Tilly’s break through film role was as a singing waitress in The Fabulous Baker Boys which was released in 1989. She continued picking up small to moderate roles, and soon landed larger parts.
She was nominated for the Academy Award for best supporting actress for her role as a hopelessly bad actress in Woody Allen’s Bullets Over Broadway, which saw its release in 1994. She continued her acting career, appearing along side many big names in the industry, and soon expanded her career opportunities.
On June 27, 2005, Tilly won a World Series of Poker bracelet at a Texas Hold’Em event, outlasting 600 other players. On September 1, 2005, she also won the World Poker Tour Ladies Invitational Tournament held at the Bicycle Casino in Las Angeles, California.
Tilly has appeared in the GSN Poker Royale series, as well as in the third season of Poker Superstar. She was, however, eliminated in the preliminary round. Since then, she has played in numerous other events, and continues to be successful in both her acting career and poker profession.
