Annie Duke a 400 to 1 at World Series of Poker Main EventProfessional poker player Annie Duke is the sister of poker star Howard Leder and was born on September 16, 1965 in Concord, New Hampshire. Sportsbook.com has made Annie Duke a 400 to 1 long shot to win the 2007 World Series of Poker.

After double majoring in English and Psychology at Columbia University, she attended graduate school at the University of Pennsylvania and she intended to become a professor, but left school one month away from receiving her Ph.D in 1992. Her reason for leaving was so she could pursue a family life with her husband, Ben Duke, and wound up moving to Columbus, Montana.

While living in Montana, Duke begin playing poker in the card rooms throughout Billings, Montana. By that time, her brother was already a professional poker player and he bankrolled her action.

In 1994, she headed to Las Vegas to become a full time poker player. Before 2004, her main claim to fame was her tenth place finish in the 2000 World Series of Poker main event, where she was one position short of making the final table. She was, at that time, eight months pregnant with her third child.

Annie Duke received a ton of publicity for acting as a poker mentor for actor Ben Affleck, who went on to win the 2004 California State Poker Championship. Later that year, Duke won $2,000,000 in the Inaugural World Series of Poker Tournament of Champions. This was followed up with television appearances such as the Late Show with David Letterman.

As of 2006, Duke had won one World Series of Poker bracelet in Omaha HiLow, and more than $3,000,000 in tournament play. She now refuses to play in women’s only tournaments, saying that poker is one of the few sports where a woman can compete on a totally equal footing with a man.
