While the best poker hands are always made up of five cards, there are different ways of making those hands, depending upon what type of poker you are playing. For example, when you are playing Texas Hold'em, you can choose between your two pocket cards and the five community cards to come up with the best poker hands.
You can use one of your pocket cards along with four of the community cards or you can use both of your pocket cards along with three of the community cards. Alternatively, you can use all five community cards to make the best poker hands, although by doing this, you could only hope to tie the other players unless, of course, they fold.
When playing Omaha poker, it works a little differently. Players are dealt four hold, or pocket cards instead of two however, there are still five community, or board cards. In order to make the best poker hands, players must use exactly two of the four hole cards and three of the five community cards to make their hands.
In this case, the A is used as a 1, so of all the best poker hands on the low side, A, 1, 2, 3, and 4 is the best low hand when playing Omaha hi-low.
