Can Chris Moneymaker win the 2007 WSOP Main Event?

by Thomas Jensen on Thursday, July 5th, 2007

Can Chris Moneymaker win the 2007 WSOP Main Event?Chris Moneymaker is a professional poker player that is no stranger to winning the big bucks. Believe it or not, his last name is legit and it is not an alias. Moneymaker was born in Georgia in 1975 and holds a Master’s Degree in accounting earned at the University of Texas.

Sportsbook.com has made Chris Moneymaker 400 to 1 odds to win the 2007 WSOP Main Event.

Following his college endeavors, Chris held a job as an accountant. After winning a satellite tournament seat in the World Series of Poker he won an astounding $2.5 million and his poker career began.

Leaving the accounting job behind, he became a representative and spokesman for the online poker room Poker Stars and Harrah’s Entertainment. Chris Moneymaker is married and has a small daughter. Chris offers advice to new poker players and suggests that anyone interested in playing professional poker should always have a plan B. Keeping a steady job is important in the poker business according to the 2003 World Series of Poker Bracelet holder, the earnings from tournaments can be infrequent or none at all depending upon one’s luck.

Like many other professional poker players, Moneymaker has a special admiration for Johnny Chan. He felt extraordinarily privileged to be playing at the same tables with Chan.

Similar to Chan, Moneymaker quickly became a household name after his 2003 win at the WSOP Main Event. The idea that an average guy can take a $40 buy in and turn it into a couple of million is an American dream come true. Yet, he cautions that it isn’t as easy as it seems, playing poker takes considerable time, skill and a lot of luck.
