Reigning World Series of Poker Main Event bracelet holder Jamie Gold looks to defend his title in 2007. Gold resides in Malibu, California and won a record setting $12 million dollars in the 2006 WSOP but gave half of it to Crispin Leyser after a lengthy legal battle over the fortune.
Known for his smooth and unwavering attitude, Jamie Gold is one of the most aggressive opponents one can face at the poker tables. A former talent agent, Jamie has claimed to represent some major stars including Kristin Davis, Lucy Liu and James Gandolfini before he became mob boss Tony Soprano.
Jamie Gold’s all time favorite card game is Texas Holdem and he has a special admiration for Johnny Chan who served as a mentor for Gold in his early poker playing days. Unlike Johnny Chan, Jamie Gold admitted to cheating in the 2006 World Series of Poker in a interview with the New York Times and was later dropped by online poker sponsor Bodog.com .
Gold’s first big win was at the Bicycle Tournament where he brought home more than $50,000 dollars. An avid reader of poker literature, he attributes much of his poker knowledge to his reading endeavors.
Jamie also attributes much of his incredible success to his family, particularly to his poker playing mother and rummy playing grandfather. Gold contends that his family has been a tremendous support system and encouraged him to continue on his poker-playing path.
Jamie Gold has been seen at various tournaments eating fresh blueberries – like Johnny Chan and oranges, Gold believes that the blueberries give him that extra edge on luck. Jamie Gold’s poker career shows no signs of stopping, his love for the game will ensure that he continues to be seen at the tournament tables.
