Doyle Brunson, also commonly referred to as Texas Dolly is a professional American poker player and author of the book Super/System. Brunson has managed to earn himself a total of ten World Series of Poker Bracelets in his fifty-year career as a poker player. Brunson was born in Longworth, Texas on August 10 in 1933, is a former athlete, was once under consideration as a player for the Minneapolis Lakers, and has more than 50 years professional poker playing experience under his belt. Several of his family members, including son and poker pro Todd Brunson, will be playing in the upcoming 2007 WSOP Main Event.
After a devastating knee injury, Doyle set his basketball playing dreams aside and pursued a degree in administrative education. While working as a salesman, he soon learned that his poker playing abilities could earn a significant amount of cash and he took on poker playing as a full time endeavor.
Doyle Brunson’s early poker playing days weren’t always so bright – having played in a number of illegal poker games hosted by organized crime groups, Brunson found himself in a number of unsavory situations, including being robbed and beaten after a poker game. Now a champion poker player, he is currently the author of numerous texts that focus on poker and all of its aspects.
