Greg Raymer early exit from the World Series of Poker Day 1cThe 2004 World Series of Poker champion Greg Raymer takes an early exit on Day 1c getting beat by a set of sixes. Raymer's J-T couldn't hold up to his opponent's 6-6 on a board of Qh/9h/6c/2d/Jd.

Sportsbook.com had given Greg Raymer +250 odds to win the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event.

Greg Raymer was born in Minot, North Dakota in 1966 and now lives in Raleigh, North Carolina. He won the main event at the 2004 WSOP for a cool $5 million.

Prior to his career as a world-famous poker player, Raymer was a patent attorney but has since given up his law career. Nicknamed "fossilman" because he collects fossils, Raymer is easily recognized by his holographic sunglasses that he often wears during poker tournaments.

Raymer went on to place 25th in the 2005 WSOP and pocketed more than $384,000 for that win. He also took 3rd place in the British Poker Open in the same year and continued with impressive wins in 2006. Raymer is an instructor for the WSOP Academy, which is an instructional camp that primes competitors who have never before competed in the WSOP main event. He was one of the instructors in January 2007 for the WSOP camp in Tunica.

Greg Raymer has said he is considering a Vice Presidential run on the Libertarian ticket in 2008 but won't make the final decision until the Libertarian National Convention takes place in spring 2008.

Raymer has already proved he is a force to be reckoned with; in December 2004 when two thugs attempted to rob him at gunpoint, he successfully defended himself and the two were later apprehended.

When asked why he simply didn't hand over the money, Raymer explained that the robbers never asked him for money, instead they were trying to shove him into his room at the Bellagio. He says he made a quick decision that he believes may have saved his life.
