World Series of Poker gods claim the Grinder

by Thomas Jensen on Sunday, July 8th, 2007

World Series of Poker gods claim the GrinderMichael "The Grinder" Mizrachi has been eliminated from the 2007 World Series of Poker Main Event on Day 1b. He moved all in preflop holding pocket jacks and was in big trouble when his opponent flopped a set of eights on a K-8-6 flop.

The turn was a queen and there was no jack on the river for the Grinder. Sportsbook.com had Michael Mizrachi at +300 to win the 2007 World Series of Poker.

Mizrachi was born on January 5th, 1981 in Miami, Florida. While growing up, Michael said he wanted to become a doctor, but changed his mind while in college, dropping out to play poker full time. In January, 2005, he finished fifth in the World Poker Tour, and has earned the nickname “The Grinder”.

That next month, Mizrachi won a first prize of $1,859,909 also on the World Poker Tour, defeating a final table that included some of the top players. He finished the World Poker Tour for the year coming in at eleventh place out of 452 entries. He went on to play in various other poker tournaments, again, defeating some of the best players. One notable factor is his age, as he is among the youngest players in the profession, and often beats others who have established their place in the game.

In 2006, Michael Mizrachi won the Card Player Magazine Player of The Year award, making him one of the youngest players to achieve this honor. Through his winnings, he has managed to place himself among the best, and isn’t expected to go down any time soon.

As of 2007, his live tournament winnings exceed five million dollars, an amount it has taken other players much longer to reach. His fast rise has made him one of the most talked about players in the profession, and his abilities are difficult to surpass. He is expected to continue his rise to the top, and may very well go down as one of the best poker players this country has ever seen.
