by Thomas Jensen on Thursday, February 8th, 2007

WPT LA Poker ClassicThe WPT LA Poker Classic Main Event is scheduled for a 6 days, beginning on Saturday, February 24, 2007 and ending with the final table Thursday, March 1st. The tournament will be held at the “Poker Capital of the World,” the famous Commerce Casino in Commerce, California, right next door to Hollywood. It will be a No Limit Texas Hold’em tournament with a $10,000 buy-in.

The Commerce Casino recently unveiled the WPT Poker Walk of fame, having inducted its first members; Doyle "Texas Dolly" Brunson, Gus "The Great Dane" Hansen, and James “Maverick” Garner in a ceremony that kicked off the time-honored L.A. Poker Classic tournament. The Commerce Casino also hosts the glamorous “WPT Invitational.” The most star-studded event in poker, the “WPT Invitational” attracts famous professionals and Hollywood celebrities such as Ben Affleck, James Woods, Jon Favreau and Jennifer Tilly. Win a seat into the next WPT event by playing in a WPT satellite tournament at BodogPoker!

The 2007 LA Poker Classic consists of 30 various events beginning on January 25th and running through until the final Main Event on February 24th. The tournaments are off to a screaming start as they decided to limit the first event to 900 players. There are a lot of events in which organizers are trying to cash in on the 'poker boom' of today but more and more we see the flagship events drawing record fields while lesser tournaments are poorly attended and fall by the wayside. The good parts of the LA Poker Classic is that now events are two or more days long and play lasts for 12 hours on day one.

Last year Alan Goehring won the LA Poker Classic for his 2nd WPT title. He took in a whopping $2,391,550. He is currently ranked 4th for the WPT all-time money list and has a total all-time tournament earnings of $5,171,000.
