Florida Governor Charlie Crist joins Florida Senator Mel Martinez in endorsing Arizona Senator John McCain for the Republican Party's 2008 Presidential Candidate. The endorsement is another blow to Rudy Guiliani. Guiliani was trying to get Charlie Crist’s endorsement for months. Rudy’s Florida strategy is looking more and more like a bad nightmare as the state seems to be slipping out of the grasp of the former New York City Mayor. McCain already snatched the New York Times endorsement away from Guiliani. Sportsbook.com has John McCain as the 4 to 7 odds favorite to secure the Republican Party’s 2008 Presidential Nomination.
“He is the right man at the right time,” stated Florida Governor Charlie Crist. “He is a great man....he impressed me...I think the world of him.”
Crist is an extremely popular Governor in the state of Florida that appeals to both independent voters and Democrats as well. McCain endorsed Charlie Crist during the Governor’s campaign to succeed Jeb Bush. It is clear that Charlie Christ could be viewed as a potential Vice President Candidate on the Republican ticket because he has a 70% approval rating and would guarantee the key state of Florida to the Republicans in the General Election.
Earlier in the week, Republican Florida Senator Mel Martinez endorsed the McCain Presidential Candidacy. “I’ve decided the best person to lead our country under these uncertain times, the man that we should trust with the leadership of our nation as our commander and chief has to be John McCain,” said Martinez.
Winning the Florida Primary will certainly be a big boost to John McCain’s White House bid, conservatives believe the maverick Arizona Senator and liberal leaning former New York Mayor would ruin the party if either become the 2008 Republican Presidential Nominee. Conservatives cannot vote for John McCain or Rudy Guiliani as the Republican Presidential Nominee but could vote for them in the Presidential Race to keep the Clintons out of the White House. Sportsbook.com has Rudy Guiliani with 4 to 1 odds to become the Republican Party's Presidential Nomination.
The conservatives are starting to lean towards former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney now that Fred Thompson dropped out of the race. The former Massachusetts Governor performed well in the Florida Republican Primary Debate and actually looked Presidential.
Republican Presidential hopefuls such as John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Rudy Guiliani do not have the dough to survive that far beyond Florida giving Texas Congressman Ron Paul a nice advantage to outlast the other lower tiered candidates and gobble up some of their support once they leave the race. Ron Paul won the Republican Debate on Thursday on the even of the Florida Primary but has yet to win a primary. His second place finish in the Nevada Caucus followed by his second place in the Louisiana Caucus has boosted his campaign. Sportsbook.com has posted political betting odds to win the 2008 Republican Party Presidential Nomination:
John McCain: 4-7 Mike Huckabee: 12-1 Mitt Romney: 3-1 Ron Paul: 25-1 Rudy Giuliani: 4-1
