by Alexander Banks on Tuesday, October 9th, 2007

Republican Presidential Odds heading into the October 9 debatesTuesday night’s two-hour Republican Presidential Debate   between nine of the major candidates in a quest for the GOP presidential nomination will take place in Dearborn, Michigan at the Ford Community & Performing Arts Center with the focus mainly on the economy. Of course each candidate will ultimately pitch his own agenda. The debate will also be the first for actor and former Tennessee Senator Fred Thompson, who recently threw his hat into the ring.

Online wagering leader Sportsbook.com has issued odds on all of the candidates whom have officially announced their entry into the Republican presidential race.

Political gambling watch-dogs will be interested in seeing how the debates will affect the current wagering odds.

On Monday, we caught up with political analyst and handicapper Reno Goldberg of Point-Spreads.com to get his views on Tuesday’s debates.

“It will be interesting to see how Ron Paul comes across tonight.” Goldberg said. “Paul is more libertarian than Republican and the main stream Republicans are not happy Paul is involved in the debates; probably because he makes the most sense and they are very nervous about the money they guy has been able to raise.”

“Fred Thompson has now thrown his hat into the ring and oddsmakers think he has a fighting chance to walk away with the nomination,” Goldberg continued. “However, political pundits as well as myself see him as a paper tiger; a guy who looks great on paper but will have trouble with voters,” Goldberg said.
