Freshman Democratic Illinois Senator Barack Obama hopes he truly is "blessed by God", which is what his first name means in Swahili. Obama has officially set up an exploratory committee in a push to make a run at the 2008 Unites States Presidency. Online betting site BetUS.com has him at 9 to 1 (Bet $1.00 to win $9.00) odds to become the next President of the United States.
"Running for the presidency is a profound decision" Obama stated on his internet website. "So before I committed myself and my family to this race, I wanted to be sure that this was right for us and, more importantly, right for the country."
Obama is currently the only African American in the US Senate and started to gain in popularity after he gave the keynote speech at the 2004 Democratic National Convention.
"Politics has become so bitter and partisan, so gummed up by money and influence, that we can't tackle the big problems that demand solutions. And that's what we have to change first." Obama went on to say on his website.
His biggest hurdle in his way to becoming the President of the United State in 2008 is New York Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton. Clinton has not made a decision on her plans yet, however, she is favored to win the 2008 Democratic Presidential Nomination at 10 to 11 (Bet $11.00 to win $10.00). Obama is a close second at 7 to 2 (Bet$2.00 to win $7.00).
Obama has demostrated his value to the Democrats by using his celebrity status to raise money for the party. He is one of the most prolific fundraiser since in Washington. His efforts earned him the Midwest vice chairman of the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee.
Barrack Obama opposes the war in Iraq and was not in congress at the time his peers were pressed for a vote. That may help him a bit against other Democratic rivals like Clinton. He stated he would make an announcement regarding his intent to run in 2008 for the United State President as soon as February 10th, 2007.
