CNN/YouTube Democratic debate format big hit!Technology was applied successfully to the typically stuffy debate format making user generated content a big hit at the Democratic Presidential Debate from the Citadel in South Carolina. The debate aired on CNN with questions being directed to the Presidential candidates from YouTube videos submitted from actual voters, not the media.

As the debate went to and came back from commercial breaks, CNN would play the Democratic Presidential candidates YouTube.com videos to showcase how the various campaigns are leveraging technology. The format seemed to work well and host Anderson Cooper did a great job at keeping the politicians in check and on point.

The CNN producers did a great job at selecting videos that represented a broad spectrum of issues affecting all Americans. The YouTube videos were creative, funny, entertaining but most importantly, real questions from real voters.

Two hillbillies from Tennessee asked all of the candidates if they are upset about all the Al Gore talk. It was probably the funniest video of the night as all of the Democratic candidates were getting a good chuckle from the video. Despite not even being an official candidate, Al Gore is listed at 6 to 1 odds to become the next President of the United States by Sportsbook.com.

Universal health care coverage was a hot topic on Americans minds. Both John Edwards and Hillary Clinton were extremely passionate about health care reform. Clinton attempted to reform the industry when she was the first lady. Hillary Clinton is the favorite at 2 to 1 odds to become the President of the United States in 2008 by Sportsbook.com. As the only female in the group, Clinton stood out in her peach colored jacket.

Barack Obama said he would meet with Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea in their first 12 months in office when asked by a YouTube video creator. John Edwards agreed he would open a dialogue with the rogue nations at the highest levels. Hillary Clinton did not want to be used for propaganda purposes and said she would open up a dialogue via proxies and lower level administrators to gauge the rogue nations intent first.

Congressman Dennis Kucinich was fired during the few minutes of air time he had in the spotlight. Kucinich asked viewers to reach out to their representatives in Congress by text messaging the word "PEACE" to 73223, a special number he has set up. Kucinich stated he is the only true anti-war candidate, which was a clear attack on Barack Obama.

While Obama voted against the authorization to go to war, he did support appropriation bills to fund the war. Kucinich has voted against all of the appropriation bills and thinks that the Democratic Party has let voters down since the November 2006 elections by continuing to fund the war.
