With the New Hampshire debates behind both political parties, Hillary Clinton still remains the favorite to become the President of the United States in 2008. Sportsbook.com's oddsmakers have Clinton listed at 2 to 1 odds.
With George W Bush constitutionally limited to two terms and Vice-President Dick Cheney making clear he will not be running, the race for the White House is wide open for the first time since 1928. The 2008 Presidential Election campaign season is becoming just as popular with overseas bettors.
UK bookmaker William Hill received a £20k wager on Clinton and have shorten her odds from 6/4 to 11/10.
"We believe this is the largest bet ever placed on a female politician," said Hill's spokesman Graham Sharpe. "We don't take that many bigger ones for male politicans, either! Punters have been backing Hillary to become President since the day her husband ceased to be, and already she will cost us over £500,000."
Election Day, November 4, 2008 – may feel a long way off but the first debates have already been held and campaigning is well under way.
Hill also took a £1000 wager at odds of 50/1 for outsider Ron Paul to win the race to the White House – his odds have now been cut to 25/1.
Barack Obama, who Time magazine dubbed Senator Obama "America's hottest political phenomenon" is the second favourite at 7/2.
