Hillary Rodham Clinton predicted to win the 2006 New York Senate race by oddsmakers

Hillary Rodham Clinton predicted to win the 2006 New York Senate race by oddsmakersHillary Rodham Clinton is expected to win her re-election to the Senate in November.  The polls are proving her to be the front runner for New York.  Although she hasn’t yet been announced as a candidate, she is considering running for the Democratic Party Presidential election nomination in 2008.

Hillary made a name for herself during her husband Bill’s term as the 42nd President of the United States. She was not the typical First Lady, choosing to make her opinions well known and remaining directly involved in national politics.  She became the first lady to run for office and the first woman elected to the U.S. Senate in New York.  She is one of only 5 women to be repeatedly ranked among the world’s most influential people by Time Magazine.  Clinton sits on 5 Senate Committees with a total of 9 subcommittee assignments: the Senate Committee on Armed Services with 3 subcommittees on Airland on Emerging Threats and Capabilities and Readiness and Management Support, the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee with 3 subcommittee assignments on Clean Air, Wetlands, Private Property, and Nuclear Safety, on Fisheries, Wildlife, and Water and on Superfund, Waste Control, and Risk Assessment, the Senate Health, Education, and Labor and Pensions Committee with 2 subcommittee assignments on Aging and on Children and Families, and the Senate Special Committee on Aging.

Political Betting Odds: Bodog.com posts odds on who will win the November 7th, 2006 senate election for the state of New York: Hillary Rodham Clinton (DEM), John Spencer (REP) or Field (Any Other Candidate)?

Hillary Rodham Clinton (DEM): 1/14

John Spencer (REP): 6/1

Field (Any Other Candidate): 40/1

Senator Clinton has made Homeland Security one of her main priorities following the September 11th attacks especially on obtaining funding for recovery from the attacks and for improving security capabilities.  She helped secure $21.4 billion in funding to assist clean up and recovery, to provide health tracking for first responders and volunteers at Ground Zero, and to create grants for redevelopment.  Clinton became a national advocate for retaining money and improving health and other benefits for veterans.  By the end of 2005 her standing among the military community became much higher.

Clinton has an impressive history and will definitely be extremely tough to outshine.  Her opponent in this year’s election John Spencer (REP) will have to put his game face on.  Spencer is a former Mayor of Yonkers, NY.  Prior to him entering politics as a member of Yonkers City Council he worked in retail, food service, construction, waste management, and banking.  He is also a former lieutenant in the US Army and a veteran of Vietnam War.  He is the founder of Spencer Consulting Group where he uses his personal experience with alcohol to counsel others on the addiction.

Spencer was sworn in as Mayor of Yonkers in 1996 at which time the city’s finances had been under the oversight of a federal board for two decades.  His efforts to revitalize the city proved successful, particularly its waterfront and control of the city’s finances were returned to the citizens.  In March 2004 Spencer was found guilty in the United States District Court on falsely terminating the position of a Yonker’s city employee.  He is generally opposed to abortion, against gun control, and a supporter of tighter border security.  His support for the Bush Administration and its policies is very well known including the war in Iraq.  He hasn’t however received funding support from the Republicans for his campaign.  He voiced his anger over that during an interview on a well known radio station in NY.

So far Clinton is far in the led as well she should be with her notable record and impressive background.  Spencer doesn’t seem to have a chance to overtake Clinton in this year’s election.
