Senator John McCain Enters 2008 Presidential RaceRepublican Senator John McCain officially announced that he will run for the President of the United States of American in 2008. The announcement was made last night on "The Late Show With David Letterman". BetUS.com has John McCain at 3 to 1 (Bet $100 to win $300) to become the President of the United States of America in 2008.

"I am announcing that I will be a candidate for president of the United States" stated Senator McCain. A formal announcement speech is expected in April after he visits U.S. troops in Iraq.

McCain has been a staunch supporter of the war in Iraqi but has criticized President Bush for his handling of the conflict.

On the show, Senator McCain continued to proclaim that U.S. troops must remain in Iraq rather than withdrawing early. "Americans are very frustrated, and they have every right to be. We've wasted a lot of our most precious treasure, which is American lives."

"Senator McCain should apologize immediately for his callous comments," said Karen Finney, a DNC spokeswoman. "How is it that John McCain now believes American lives are being wasted, yet he so stubbornly supports the president's plan to escalate the war in Iraq and put more American lives in harms way?"
John McCain, a former Navy pilot who was a prisoner of war in Vietnam, ran unsuccessfully for the Republican choice for President in 2000 against George W Bush. Since then, he has been planning for the 2008 Presidential Race. In recent months, McCain has become President George W. Bush's most outspoken supporter of sending in another 21,500 troops to Iraq. McCain is the highest-ranking Republican on the Senate Armed Services Committee, which is focused largely on the war in Iraq.
