The 51st running of the Daytona 500 will take place this Sunday, February 15th at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona Beach, Florida. The defending Sprint Cup Champion, Jimmie Johnson, is one of the favorites to win NASCAR's biggest event. Jimmie Johnson odds to win Daytona 500 at Sportsbook.com are currently eight to one or +800 on the moneyline. Johnson, who drives the number 48 Lowe's Chevrolet — which happens to be owned by Jeff Gordon — for Hendrick Motorsports, won his third straight Sprint Cup Championship last year. The 33 year old recorded seven wins, 15 top fives, and 22 top 10 finishes in joining Cale Yarborough as the only driver to win three consecutive championships. Johnson also posted a career best in laps led last season with 1968. The California native enters this Sprint Cup season having won 40 races in 255 starts (15.6 percent). He also has 101 top five finishes (39.6 percent) and has earned $44,887,585 in career winnings. His history at Daytona International is also stellar. In 14 starts at the revered track, Johnson has one win, five top fives, and eight top 10 finishes. He captured his only Daytona 500 win in 2006 when he started in the ninth position and led 24 of the 203 laps ran. Johnson, who won his first Sprint Cup race in April of 2002, will start this year's running on the fourth row and in the seventh position. Sportsbook.com's Jimmie Johnson Odds to Win Daytona 500: To Win +800 Top Three Finish +240 (Johnson recorded 14 top three results in 2008, counting the Bud Shootout) |
