Daytona 500 Betting Odds: NASCAR's biggest race will take place this afternoon at Daytona International Speedway in Daytona, Florida. The 52nd running of the Daytona 500, which consists of 200 laps on the 2.5 mile tri-oval, is scheduled to begin at 1:00pm ET on FOX. Denny Hamlin officially made his presence felt on the Sprint Cup scene last season, driving his No. 11 Joe Gibbs Toyota to 
victory lane four times. Aside from his four wins, Hamlin's steady performance (15 top fives, 20 top 10s) also garnered the 29 year old a fifth place finish in the Chase for the Sprint Cup.
Despite his breakout success and expected rise in the driver ranks, Hamlin has yet to do much at Daytona International Speedway, and, in particular, the Daytona 500. In four 500 races, Hamlin has zero wins and zero top 10 finishes. That trend continued last season as he placed 26th after a 10th place start in NASCAR's showcase event. Hamlin, who has produced an average finish of 23.8 in eight races at the track, did have success at the Coke Zero 400 in July, though. The Virginia native placed third and led 63 of the 160 laps ran.
Jimmie Johnson has certainly had more time on the Sprint Cup circuit than Hamlin to familiarize himself with Daytona's nuances. And his results at the track have proven as much. While Johnson has not enjoyed the same success at Daytona that he has at some smaller tracks, his record there is above reproach. In 16 career races at the facility, Johnson has one win, six top fives, and nine top 10 performances to go along with an average finish of 14.2.
Johnson also has the advantage of some much better starting position this afternoon. The No. 48 Lowes Chevrolet will take off from the three position, while Hamlin's FedEX Toyota will start from the 25 spot.
