They will be participating in the 250 lap Auto Club 500 in Fontana, which is set to get underway at 3:00pm ET on Sunday, February 21st on FOX. Stewart is presently listed as a -130 moneyline favorite to finish ahead of Kahne.
Tony Stewart failed to garner his first Daytona 500 victory last Sunday and he was also unable to crack the top 20, finishing
22nd after starting the race in the six position. Stewart, who is a two time Sprint Cup champion, can probably expect a better result this weekend, despite not having ever won a Sprint Cup event at the Auto Club Speedway. The Indiana native has produced four top five finishes and nine top 10 performances in 17 appearances at the track.
Stewart started last year's event in the 11 spot and drove his way to an eighth place finish while also leading three laps.
Kasey Kahne, who drives the No. 9 Ford for Richard Petty Motorsports, had a decent Daytona finish in the works last weekend, but he got caught up in a wreck with just eight laps remaining in the race that relegated him to 30th place. Kahne, like Stewart, should presume an improved outcome on Sunday given his past record in the Auto Club 500. In 12 Sprint Cup races in Fontana, Kahne has produced one pole, one win, three top five, and seven top 10 finishes.
While Stewart has the better racing pedigree, and is the favorite to finish ahead of Kahne, Kahne has posted the better results at the Auto Club Speedway. Not only does he have a win there, the 29 year old Washington native has finished in the top five 25 percent of the time (Stewart 23 percent) and inside the top 10 58 percent of the time (Stewart 52 percent).
