On Sunday (Mar.2), the NASCAR Sprint Cup championship run continues with the UAW-Dodge 400 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway in Nevada. Odds makers at online sports wagering giant Bodoglife.com have installed Jimmie Johnson as the odds-on favorite to win the race with 9/2 odds. No other driver other than Johnson has crossed the finish line at Las Vegas since the 2005 season, having won three straight Sprint-Cup races.
If Johnson is able to score his fourth consecutive victory, it would be the first time a driver has gone four in a row at the same event since Jeff Gordon won the 1995-1998 Southern 500s at Darlington, S.C.
"It would be great to get that fourth win, but we won't approach this weekend any differently than we would at a track where we've never won," Johnson said. "We go into every weekend hoping to win, but so does every other team out there.
"I have every confidence in the equipment and the crew to get the job done, but anyone who's ever been to Vegas will tell you you've got to have some luck on your side, too. If you've ever watched a poker tournament on TV, you know even the most experienced players can get beat. We won't take anything for granted."
Jeff Gordon , also of Hendrick Motorsports is expected to challenge Johnson for the checkered flag with 11/2 odds. Installed with 8/1 odds, Kyle Busch of Joe Gibbs Racing and the current Sprint Cup points leader is expected to have his No. 18 M&M’s racing Toyota Camry in the mix. A Toyota has yet to win a Sprint Cup race but they have been knocking on the door.
Carl Edwards , last week’s winner of the Auto Club 500 at Fontana, Calif., will be considered a strong challenger installed at 9/1 odds at Bodoglife.com . Other drivers with 9/1 odds chances are Tony Stewart and Matt Kenseth.
