Shelby American Betting Odds: The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series tackles the Las Vegas Motor Speedway this afternoon for the 427 mile Shelby American. The race is scheduled to begin at 3:00pm ET on FOX. Jimmie Johnson did not have a good season opening run at Daytona, but the California native made up for it last weekend
with a dominating performance at the Auto Club 500 in Fontana. Johnson started the race in seventh and went on to finish first after leading 101 laps of the the 250 lap affair. The victory improved the four time Cup champs position on the leaderboard to 12th, where he is 78 points back of first place (Kevin Harvick).
Johnson is hoping for a better showing in Vegas this year than the one he produced last March. The 34 year old started third in last year's Shelby 427, but went on to finish an uncharacteristic 24th, despite leading 92 laps. In eight career races at the track, Johnson has typically shown well, though, producing three wins, three top five and four top 10 finishes.
Johnson will begin this afternoon's race on the 10th row (20th position) next to Kasey Kahne's No. 9 Budweiser Ford.
Also listed at +500 moneyline odds to win today's race is Las Vegas native Kyle Busch. Busch, who will start the Shelby American from the fifth position, has been solid at his home track, winning one time in six career outings at the facility to go along with three top five and four top 10 finishes. Busch won last year's Shelby 427 after taking the pole and leading 51 laps.
Other driver's viewed as strong threats to win the third race of the season include Mark Martin (+800), Jeff Gordon (+800), Kurt Busch (+1000), Tony Stewart (+1200), Kevin Harvick (+1200), and Greg Biffle (+1200). The six drivers have a combined two wins (Gordon and Martin) in 59 Sprint Cup races at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
