Tony Stewart has fared far better this season than many people anticipated he would when he decided to leave Joe Gibbs Racing and start his own team. The Indiana native finds himself in the thick of things as the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series heads to Texas Motor Speedway this weekend for the Samsung 500. Tony Stewart, who now drives the number 14 Old Spice/Office Depot Chevy for Stewart-Haas Racing, currently sits in seventh place in the Sprint Cup points standings with a total of 798. His present ranking comes as a result of his average finish being an impressive 11.7. Stewart has finished in the top 10 four times this year, including last weekend's third place running at the Goody's Fast Relief 500 in Martinsville, Virginia. His conclusion there was not only his best of the young season, it also marked his third top 10 finish in the last five races. Heading into Texas, Stewart has to feel pretty good about his chances. In 14 races at the Ft. Worth speedway Tony has garnered one win as well as three top five and eight top 10 finishes. His average placement at the track is 13.1 while his average starting position is a less than stellar 19.6. Last year he came in seventh in the April race after starting 24th. He almost reversed that scenario in the November running at Texas, coming in 16th after starting in eighth. Stewart's career percentages at the Texas Motor Speedway work out to the following: wins 7.1 percent, top fives 21.4 percent, and top 10's 57 percent.
