The Texas Motor Speedway in Fort Worth will host the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series this afternoon for the Samsung 500. The 501 mile, 334 lap race is set to get underway at 1:30pm ET on FOX. Samsung 500 Odds at Sportsbook.com have defending Sprint Cup champion Jimmie Johnson listed as a +300 moneyline favorite to win his second race of the season. Last week Johnson won his first race of the young Sprint Cup season, taking the top spot at the Goody's Fast Relief 500 in Martinsville. The victory marked the second week in a row that Johnson finished in the top five and the third straight week that he secured a position in the top 10. His recent performance has vaulted him to fourth place in the Cup standings with a total of 817 points. Johnson has had good success at Texas in the past; in 11 races at the track, he has recorded one win, five top five, and eight top 10 finishes. His average placement at the 1.5 mile quad oval is a stellar 9.1. Last year the California native finished second in the April race at Fort Worth and he came in 15th in the November running at the facility. His 48 Lowes Chevrolet will start today's race from the ninth position. Close behind Johnson in the Samsung 500 odds is Joe Gibbs driver Kyle Busch at +400 on the moneyline. Busch has proven his wares at Texas in the past, including yesterday's victory in the Texas Nationwide race. His first place finish in Saturday's running marked his third straight Nationwide win at the track. He has not fared as well in the Sprint series, though, recording no wins and just four top 10 results in eight races. Busch did, however, place well in last year's Texas races, finishing third in the April race and sixth in the November running. Busch, who is currently sixth in the points standing with a tally of 800, will start today's race from the eighth position. He will certainly be looking to improve on last week's Martinsville conclusion; the number 18 M&M's Toyota took a distant 24th at the Goody's Fast Relief 500. Carl Edwards is the third most favored driver to take the checkered flag in today's Samsung 500 (+500) and with good reason. Last year Edwards dominated both races at Texas Motor Speedway, taking first place in each running while leading 335 of the 668 laps ran. In eight races at the track, Edwards has garnered three wins, three top five and three top 10 finishes. Edwards, who drives the 99 AFlac Ford for Jack Roush, presently sits eighth in the cup standings with 750 points after placing 26th in last week's run at Martinsville. The Missouri native will begin today's race from the 13th position. Sportsbook.com's Samsung 500 Odds: Jimmie Johnson +300 Kyle Busch +400 Carl Edwards +500 Denny Hamlin +800 Jeff Gordon +800 Matt Kenseth +1000 Greg Biffle +1200 Tony Stewart +1500 Dale Earnhardt Jr +1500 Kurt Busch +1500 |
