Carl Edwards , of Rousch Fenway Racing, is the subject of all the hot talk around the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and all for good reason. Edwards is hotter than a scalded dog right now and according to oddsmakers at online sportsbook Bodoglife.com , is a 5/1 odds favorite to win Saturday’s NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race Subway Fresh Fit 500 at Phoenix International Raceway. 

Not since Bill Elliott dominated the circuit in the late 1980’s, when running with Melling Racing, have opposing crew-chiefs been scratching their heads and asking the question, what is it they got that we don’t? Edwards and team RFR picked up their third victory of the season last week at Texas and had it not been for engine failure at Atlanta, could be looking for a fifth win at Phoenix.

Jimmie Johnson of Hendrick Motorsports, the last driver to win at Phoenix  finished second to Edwards at Texas has a 6/1 odds chance of winning at PIR on Saturday. In his nine previous starts at Phoenix, Johnson has seven top-10 finishes, including his most recent Sprint Cup win, which came in November 2007.

The oddsmakers as well as everybody else is still looking for Hendrick Motorsports to produce a winner, something this dream team of drivers hasn’t done in 2008. Dale Earnhardt Jr., started from the pole at Texas last week but struggled to a 12^th place finish. Saturday at Phoenix, Earnhardt has a 9/1 odds chance of winning. 

For Jeff Gordon it gets worse. Also with 9/1 odds chance of winning at Phoenix, Texas was a pure nightmare for the Dupont Racing team. Due to multiple mechanical problems, Gordon finished at the back of the pack for only the second time in his career. 

Tony Stewart, dominant in the past is another driver still looking for the winners circle. Stewart is one of the favorites for Phoenix with 8/1 odds.
