The Russ Friedman 400 will take place this Saturday, May 2nd at Richmond International Raceway in Richmond, Virginia. It is the 10th race of the 2009 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series and it will be broadcast live on FOX at 7:00pm ET. He did not really help his cause last week, placing 22nd at Talladega Superspeedway, but he has produced an average finish this year of 12.3. The Virginia native also has two top five finishes and four top 10 conclusions on the young season. He drove the No. 11 FedEX Toyota to second place finishes at Bristol and Martinsville, and he has placed inside the top 10 in three of the last five races. Hamlin led 296 laps of the Goody's Fast Pain Relief 500 at Martinsville Speedway. All indications are that the North Carolina resident likes racing in his home state of Virginia. While he has never won at Richmond, his stats there (and at Martinsville) are quite impressive. In six races at the track he has finished inside the top five three times and inside the top 10 on four occasions. He has also garnered two poles in those six appearances and taken the checkered flag in an average position of 8.8. In last year's May race at the .75 mile oval, Hamlin took the pole but went on to finish 24th after having engine issues. He led 381 of the 400 laps in that event. He did not lead a single lap in the September race at Richmond, but did secure a third place finish.
