The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series will visit Richmond International Raceway this weekend for the Russ Friedman 400. The 10th race of the 2009 season will be a 300 mile, 400 lap affair at the .75 mile D-shaped oval. It is set to begin at 7:00pm ET on Saturday, May 2nd and will be televised live on FOX. Busch took over the lead in the Sprint Cup point standings last week with a sixth place finish at Talladega. It was the sixth time this year that Busch has finished inside the top 10 and the third time he has done so in the last three weeks. He now sits five points ahead of second place Jeff Gordon and 64 points ahead of third place driver Jimmie Johnson.
Kurt, who drives the No. 2 Miller Lite Dodge for Walter Czarnecki, has already earned $1,397,488 this season. The Las Vegas native has three top five runs to his credit and one victory, which came at the Kobalt Tools 500 in Atlanta, Georgia on March 8th. His has produced a stellar 12.7 average starting position and an even more impressive finishing average of 9.4.
Busch has not had the greatest success at Richmond International Raceway, but he has not been a laughing stock there either. In 16 career races at the track he has recorded one win and five top 10 finishes. His average placement in those 16 runnings is 19.1. In last year's May race at Richmond, Busch started 21st and went on to finish a distant 42nd. The September event at the facility saw the 30 year old cross the finish line in 10th place.
