The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series is in Charlotte, North Carolina again this weekend for the Coca Cola 600. The 400 lap, 600 mile race will take place at 5:00pm ET (FOX) on Sunday, May 24th at the Lowe's Motor Speedway. Dale Earnhardt Jr. Coca Cola 600 Odds at Sportsbook.com have the idolized driver listed at +2000 on the money line to win the race. When Dale Earnhardt Jr. partnered up with Hendrick Motorsports, he probably expected bigger things than what the 2009 season has produced. While Earnhardt has plenty of time to get things turned around, the performance of his team to this point as been a major disappointment. He is currently out of the Chase, sitting at 18th in the points standings with a tally of 1182. He is 419 points behind teammate and leader Jeff Gordon. Earnhardt, who has not won a race since June 15th, 2008 at Michigan, recorded a second place finish at the Aaron's 499 at Talledega on April 26th, but has been unable to build on that performance. In the two races since Talladega, Junior has garnered back to back 27th place results. No one is more annoyed than Earnhardt at his lackluster results, and he is starting to feel the pressure of his own expectations as well as the those of others. "When you're running bad, you're a target," Earnhardt said. "And you're angry because you're running bad, and frustrated. You can't win for losing. If you get angry you're a [jerk]. If you take it on the chin, you don't care." Earnhardt, who finished 10th in last weekend's NASCAR Sprint All-Star Race, does not have a sparkling record at Lowe's Motor Speedway. He has not been terrible there either, though. In 19 races at the facility he has five top five finishes and nine top 10 conclusions. He has never won at the track. His average finish there is 17.3, 2.9 positions worse than his average starting position. Qualifying for Sunday's race is set for 7:00pm ET on Thursday night.
